1. I propose to form an‘Alternate Careers Group’under the Technology Students’ Gymkhana in order to provide students with information & resources related to alternate career paths such as Civil services, Actuarial Sciences, FRM, CFA etc.

2. I propose to introduce the following changes in order to improve the placements of students at IIT Kharagpur :

- Conduct mock screening tests, resume-making workshops & mock personal interview sessions in order to better equip the students for the placement season.

- Increase the Post-Graduate student representation in the Placement Committee.

- Include Department representatives in the month of January to supplement the Placement Committee.

- Prepare a database of relevant Job openings appearing in various employment newspapers & websites to ensure that students don’t miss out on such opportunities.

3. I propose to provide different student groups at IIT Kharagpur with additional infrastructure for conducting meetings. The additional infrastructure is available in the Centre for Theoretical Studies Visitors’ Hall.

4. I propose to have a tie-up with Big Bazaar for home delivery of merchandise at discounted prices via tele-shopping as well as internet shopping that will cater to the need of the students and staff of IIT Kharagpur.

5. I propose to get Sponsored Industrial BTech and MTech Projects for the students. This will be done through a student group formed under the aegis of SRIC that will be entrusted with the task of contacting companies to obtain projects.

HOBBY CLUB :- I am proposing to introduce a hobby club to cater to the interests of students like Photography, Film making, Journalism. Apart from the already existing activities, these activities are of interest among the students but there being not an adequate platform for the promotion of such activities, I am proposing to introduce a hobby club.
I am proposing to introduce Columbia Pictures’ documentaries and short films in the shows conducted by Technology Film Society.These films would include many documentaries and short films that have not been released world wide and have been a huge hit. Along with that, the halls will be asked to provide recommendations for any outstanding player of their hall outside of the Inter-IIT contingents. The entire list will then be scrutinized according to the official procedures as is the norm.

Distribution of comprehensive information brochure about NSO, sports facilities and events, and the contact information to fresher’s at the time of registration on 21st and 22nd July.

Objective:
• To provide comprehensive information to the fresher’s.
• Providing an opportunity to freshers for selecting NSO by considering their personal preference and the competition level.
• By having exhaustive information beforehand, fresher’s community will be effectively able to practice and participate in various freshers, open-IIT and intra hall events. Thus increasing overall participation level in Sports and Games in IIT Kharagpur.

Schematics and Costs:

• With the help of the respective Secretaries and a few volunteers, I propose to procure all information and this brochure will be available in the pdf format ready for printing by the end of April.
• The brochure will consist of around 8 pages, with size A4/2. The brouchure may be of black/white or full color depending on the budget available.
• The estimated cost per brochure according to Quest Printers (Prem Bazaar) is around Rs 1.30 per copy for b/w and Rs 5.75 per copy for full color in glossy paper.
• The total number of copies will be 2000 with 1200 for UG freshers and 800 for PG freshers.
• This amounts to a total of Rs 2600 for b/w and 11500 for color

Proposal II

To introduce the system of online fee payment for the membership fees of Aquatics society, Gymnasium, Lawn Tennis Club and the Billiards Club.

Objective:

• To make process of membership hastlefree.
• To make process of membership fair and equitable as far as possible.

Schematics:
• I propose to introduce an online payment system on the Gymkhana website on the lines of fee payment on the central homepage of IIT Kharagpur.
• Applicant upon entry of his membership details will be redirected to the Online SBI homepage.
• The Online SBI homepage is a secured site and the user can pay the fees safely by entering his SBI account information.
• On successful payment of the fees, a confirmation message will be displayed to the user and a printout can be taken.
• The form will have space for the signature of the concerned society President and a medical officer.
• Printout of form and payment to be submitted after verification.
• Around 50% of the forms will be available in the traditional way to cater the people devoid of online banking facility.
• Decision of who gets membership depends on who submits the form first.
• Seeing the trends of usage of the online system, changes in the ratio of forms available for trational and online can be made.
• This online payment system will be highlighted and explained in the information brochure so the students can be aware

Proposal III

Introduction of two new events namely football and badminton in the second edition of Shaurya to be held in 2009 and enhancement in the quality of participation by inviting better teams.

Objective:

• To provide better practice to our own inter-IIT teams.
• To provide intense practice in two more sports (football and badminton).
• To boost the visibility of IIT Kharagpur in the area of sports and games.

Schematics:

• Badminton court is in good condition where inter halls are held and can be used to hold matches for Shaurya.
• Football field which will be in proper condition and maintained due to the Inter-IIT practice and hence can be used for the tournament.
• I have talked with the PTI in charge of the respective sports and he has agreed to coordinate and provide support which includes arrangement of referees and additional staff.
